Tasmanian Senator Jacquie Lambie will resign after it was confirmed she has dual UK citizenship.
Senator Lambie’s father was born in Scotland which grants her British citizenship by decent.
The announcement comes after a review of her father’s family history, prompted by the recent revelation of former Senate President Stephen Parry’s dual British citizenship.
Senator Lambie has said she will not run in the upcoming Tasmanian election, but may contest the seat of Braddon if Labor MP Justine Keay is forced to resign due to her citizenship circumstance.
“I have got candidates running out there for the state election — I’m going to put on my Jacqui Lambie Network jacket and I’ll be right beside them,” she said, as cited by ABC.
“I would imagine I am running in the next election for myself as well.”
